‘Lift ban on stone quarrying in Panthachowk, Wuyan, Khrew’: BJP leader Er. Aijaz Hussain

PAMPORE, June 24:

Bartiya Janta Party (BJP) national youth vice president Er. Aijaz Hussain has demanded government of Jammu and Kashmir to lift ban on stone quarrying in Wuyan, Khrew, Panthachowk, Zewan and areas of Pulwama and Srinagar district’s.

He told Sachnews Jammu Kashmir that around 20 thousand families in Panthachowk, Athwajan Zavoora, Wuyan, Khrew, Ladhoo, Lethpora and other areas used to earn their livelihood from stone quarrying.

“But, a ban order issued by previous government has affected these families by snatching their livelihood, ” he said.

He demanded LG government to lift the ban as soon as possible so that inflation in construction materials is curbed.

“The rates of construction materials like sand, boulders, bricks spiralled which at severely bothering common man,” he said, adding that government has given permission to cement industries for mining which is good thing for business to sustain.

“At the same time government should look into the grievance of poor labourers who could find no work due to ban on stone quarrying,”he said.
He added that due to ban unemployment has increased in the area.

Lifting the ban will address the issue of unemployment and also help in containing inflation in construction materials, Er Aijaz Hussain told Sachnews.
He appealed LG government to look into the matter on humanitarian grounds and show sympathy with the quarry labourers.

Several delegation of stone queries of Panthachowk Zewan Athwajan, Khrew and other areas met Er Aijaz Hussain and reiterated the demand of lifting of Ban on stone queries activities in the area. Thousands of the locals have been rendered jobless. Despite the report of committee framed by Geology and Mining Deptt in favour of stone queries for extraction through scientific norms , the delay is adding the vows and sufferings of the area.
